In the coming weeks and months we hope you join us as we discuss and share the process of truffle cultivation and the experiences of our farmers, our foraging teams and exclusive commentary from Dr. Charles Lefevre, founder of New World Truffieres.
First and foremost, what is a truffiere and how do you pronounce it. Simply put, a truffiere is an orchard of trees inoculated with truffle fungi. Pronounced “truff-ee-air” the tree hosts are typically hazelnut and oak trees. We have had success with other tree species, including the latest find of Tuber lyonii, also known as the Texas or Pecan truffle on Texas pecan trees.
Our foraging team, Kris Jacobson and her Belgian Malinois, Ilsa are currently in Texas where they found the first pecan truffle that has been recorded in the last 20 years. Her experiences and much more to follow.
